North American rivals face off in Hiroshima


·    Canada and United States have met four times at the World Cup. All encounters were won by USA.
·    The last encounter between these teams came in the NORCECA Championship final where USA won in straight sets.
·    Canada's only intercontinental win against USA came in 1990 in the World Championship group stage. They won 3-1.

·    Canada bounced back after their opening defeat against Italy (3-1) by beating Egypt in five sets on Wednesday.
·    Canada can have two wins from their first three matches for the second time after their 1999 campaign.
·    They have now won four of their last five matches in the competition.
·    In the last nine World Cup matches Canada won the first set, they eventually won the match.

United States
·    United States have won their opening two matches after beating Australia on Tuesday (3-0) and Japan on Wednesday (3-1).
·    Team USA can win the first three of a World Cup campaign for the fourth time and for the first since 1999.
·    United States' last four defeats in the World Cup came against European sides - Russia, Italy, Poland and Serbia. Their last non-European defeat came against Brazil in 2011.
·    David Lee scored 11 points for his team against Australia, scoring four points from kill blocks and three from aces.
