Cairo, Egypt, July 23, 2015 - Cameroon fought for 130 minutes to pull off a thrilling victory over giants Tunisia in a five setter 3-2 (25-23, 12-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12) on day two of the 2015 Men's African Nations Championship held at the Cairo Stadium complex on Thursday.
Pool B also featured a first win for Rwanda over Mauritius 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 26-24).
Cameroon lead a strong Pool B with a win-loss ratio of 2-0 (5 points), followed by Morocco who were on a rest day, and Rwanda (3 points), Tunisia (1 point) and Mauritius (0 points).
Algeria started their campaign with a win over Botswana in Pool A. They lead the group with Egypt, both with 1-0 win-loss records (3 points).
Pool A
Algeria v Botswana 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-13) Opposite spiker Toufik Mahdjoubi led Algeria to their first win after they flew past Botswana in their competition debut in Pool A. Algeria start their campaign with 1-0 win- loss ratio, while Botswana move to 0-1.
The veteran opposite scored 19 points to come out as the top match scorer with the second best scoring performance in the competition so far. Captain Mohamed Chikhi followed with 13 points. Kabo Moetse led Botswana's scorers with 8 points, equal to Pastor Rebabonye who scored the same number of points for his team.
Pool B
Rwanda v Mauritius 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 26-24) Rwanda recovered from a loss in their first match to overcome Mauritius 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 26-24) in a Pool B match lasting 76 minutes. The Rwandans dominated serving and blocking, especially in the crucial points of the second and third sets.
Experienced outside hitter Guma Yakan was Rwanda's best scorer with 14 points, equal the number of points scored by Christophe Mukunzi. Alfred Mandez contributed 14 points, followed by Kevin Larose with 13 points for Mauritius. Rwanda improved their record to 1-1, while Mauritius dropped to 0-2.
The highly motivated Rwandan players showed their consistency throughout the match, cheered on by their fans.
Tunisia v Cameroon 3-2 (25-23, 12-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12) Cameroon were at their best to defeat Tunisia 3-2 (25-23, 12-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12) in an epic tiebreaker. The match - which builds on a tradition of encounters between the two countries - lasted 130 minutes.
Cameroon 36-year-old Jean Ndaki led the match scorers with an impressive 30 points, the competition's best scoring performance to date. Nathan Wounembaina and Sem Dolegombai scored 11 points. Elyes Karamosly contributed 18 points for Tunisia, followed by Marouane Garci with 16 points.
