Hamamatsu, Japan, September 9, 2015 – Poland overcame Russia in an epic battle 3-1 (26-28, 27-25, 25-19, 25-22) in the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup at Hamamatsu Arena on Wednesday.
Poland coach Stephane Antiga: "I’m very happy with this win in our first big game in this competition. We had a surprise tonight because coach Vladimir Alekno changed the configuration of his team and we were not fully prepared for this kind of opponent. It was a very tough game. I’m very happy about the character of my players. It’s a pity about our setter (Grzegorz Lomacz). I hope he will be able to play before the end of this competition."
Poland player Karol Klos: "It was a great game against great opponents who are tall and strong, and it was good volleyball, so I’m happy we won. The first set was difficult."
Russia coach Vladimir Alekno: "I want to say congratulations to the Poland team. The teams who make less mistakes than others will win. Poland made fewer errors."
Russia captain Dmitriy Muserskiy: "Of course, Poland are one of the strongest teams in the world and they are world champions. We tried to play our best but it was not good enough and we lost."
