Russia coach Alekno: "We expected a tough match"

Hamamatsu, Japan, September 12, 2015 – Russia defeated Argentina 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20) in the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup at Hamamatsu Arena on Saturday.

Russia coach Vladimir Alekno: "We expected it might be a difficult and tough match against Argentina, so to have a victory over such a good team really makes me happy."

Russia captain Dmitriy Muserskiy: "I think (Facundo) Conte could have played better than he did today, so we’re lucky to be able to win this game. I think on the whole, we didn’t do badly."

Argentina coach Julio Velasco: "Congratulations to Russia because I think they played very well. We are a team that needs good reception to be able to play against such physical and powerful teams. We had problems not only with the jump serves but also the floating serves and sometimes when we received, Russia’s blocking tactics were very good."

Argentina captain Luciano De Cecco: "Congratulations to Russia for a good game. We played really well for the first two sets; maybe we could have played better in the fourth. Russia is one of the most powerful serving teams in the world and for us it was difficult to play with the ball behind the net. I tried to play fast everywhere and in the first three sets played good with the hands and with the block. In the second set, we started serving better and had better defence, and tried to play different from the first set. But Russia is the best team; they won the Olympic Games and it’s difficult to play like that against them all the time. Now, it’s important for us to go out and focus on tomorrow to play Tunisia."
