Speraw pleased with 5-0 mark for USA through first round

USA captain David Lee added that a "strong showing from the service line" helped their cause

Hiroshima, Japan, September 13, 2015 - John Speraw said he is delighted that his team remain unbeaten at the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup Japan 2015 after seeing off Egypt in Hiroshima on Sunday.

USA coach John Speraw: "When I looked at the schedule for the World Cup, I was concerned about this match the most. I knew we would be focused so much on Italy because we play them often and know them well. We have a lot of respect for Egypt. They are talented and big with good servers. They have players with professional experience. I was pleased with our focus for this match. It was not an easy one for us. I feel good about where were are at 5-0 through the first round. We can continue to improve. We just have to keep focusing on the next match."

Egypt coach Nenad Shehata: "The USA is a strong team and has a strong system. They have big names. We did our best. It was another good experience for us. My players are improving from one match to the next. There is a lot of stress on the players in this match. Our players are in good condition and are ready to play. We practiced playing matches at different times, including in the mornings, for this tournament."

USA captain David Lee: "This was a good win for us. They have strong serves. It was a serve and recieve battle. We had a strong showing from the service line and that made the difference. We have done well with our serves throughout the tournament."

Egypt captain Ahmed Abdelhay: "The USA team had a good system of blocking. They are a good team and are the favorites to win this tournament."
