Hamamatsu welcomes Venezuela and Argentina

 

Head-to-head
·    Venezuela and Argentina will meet for the first time at the World Cup.
·    Argentina beat Venezuela in their last five meetings at major international tournaments - two at world championships (2010 and 2014) and three at South American championships (2005, 2009 and 2011).
·    Venezuela's last victory over Argentina came at the 2003 South American Championship (3-1).
·    Both teams lost their previous World Cup meetings against fellow South American teams - Argentina five defeats to Brazil (1985-2011) and Venezuela one defeat to Brazil (2003).

Venezuela
·    Venezuela began their 2015 World Cup campaign with a 3-0 defeat against defending champions Russia (29-27, 25-16, 25-15). Only Brazil in 2007 won the World Cup after losing their opening match.
·    In 2003, Venezuela's only previous World Cup appearance, they lost their opening three matches, all in straight sets.
·    Venezuela have yet to play a five-setter at the World Cup (12 matches played).

Argentina
·    Argentina won their opening match against Iran 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24) on Tuesday. They can start a World cup campaign with back-to-back victories for the second time after 2011.
·    Argentina have now won their last three World Cup matches (incl. their last two fixtures in 2011) and need a win over Venezuela to record their longest winning streak ever in the competition. They previously won three in a row in 1995-1999.
·    Facundo Conte scored a team-high 26 points against Iran, including 22 spikes from 34 attempts.
