Mauritius return to African Nations Championship after 14-year break

 

Mauritius will take on more experienced teams at the African Nations Championship in Cairo

Cairo, Egypt, July 21, 2015 - The 2015 Men's African Nations Championship in Cairo, Egypt will be held from July 20-31 and act as a qualifier for the 2015 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup, to be hosted by Japan from September 8-23.

Mauritius will participate in the African Nations Championship for the first time since 2001. They will also be preparing for the Indian Ocean Games, which begin on August 1 in the Reunion Island.
 
The Mauritian Volleyball Federation has recruited Fabrice Chalendar - a French coach - as the team prepares to take on the more experienced Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Botswana, Rwanda, Kenya and Cameroun.
 
"It will be a good test for the team and also to gain experience with these teams who possess players of high quality," said Chalendar.
 
"We will also use this tournament to reinforce our team spirit as our main goal remains the Indian Ocean Games," added  Mauritian Head Coach Melchior Miniopoo.
 
The Mauritian squad includes Gilbert Alfred, Stephane Moonisamy, Gino Sophie, Evans Sauteur, Ashwin Ramkalawon, Sunil Mudhoo, Éric Louise, Hansley Casimir, Brian Perrine, Kevin Larose, Akash Doobraz and Jason Raddoo. The Head Coach is Melchior Miniopoo, the technical supervisor is Fabrice Chalendar, the team manager is Bose Soonarane and the accompanying referee is Rohit Caullychurn.
