Physical preparation was important: Egypt coach

Tokyo, Japan, September 22, 2015 – Egypt overcame Venezuela 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20) in the FIVB Men’s World Cup at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Egypt coach Nehad Shehata: Good luck to Venezuela for playing a good match. I prepared my team very well physically to play a match like this and that’s been a success, so my team has been getting better from Day 1 to today. We played a very good match today and the spirit is very high and the players can get experience from this strong match. So I think we will succeed in some targets and I hope we will carry on like this.

Egypt captain Ahmed Abdelhay: I want to congratulate my team and coaches and staff. I’m very happy to win today. We played a good match, helped by the win yesterday and I hope we continue like this.

Venezuela coach Vincenzo Nacci: During the second set we played well but Egypt is a strong team and unfortunately we couldn’t play as well in the third and fourth sets. I’m not going to say I’m disappointed in my players because for many of them it’s their first time to experience such a big tournament. So, they are able to grow in their experience as well as tactically and I’m happy about that.

(Re. dip in form by captain Kervin Pinerua): It’s not only him. We didn’t have enough time to prepare for this tournament, but we are focusing the Olympic qualifiers so we are aiming to be ready for those.

Venezuela captain Kervin Pinerua: Today, we played good in places but in the end it wasn’t our day.  Tomorrow, we want to win our final match and give us a boost ahead of the Olympic qualifiers.
